"A unique smelling event is coming back to the Sharing Farm this year.
Rain or shine, the Richmond Garlic Fest will be stinking up the city this summer.
After two years of hiatus, the summer tradition is finally back at the Richmond Sharing Farm, on 2771 Westminister Hwy. on Aug. 14.
"We are so excited to bring back the Garlic Fest," said Sarah Drewery, event organizer and the executive director of the Sharing Farm Society, noting the event attracts around 6,000 attendees each summer.
We have had so many people asking about (the Garlic Festival) over the last two years, and we can't wait to celebrate local agriculture with the community again. We have also been missing our annual serving of garlic ice cream."
The Sharing Farm Society also takes this opportunity to help raise funds for the Richmond Food Bank and other charitable organizations in the city during the Garlic Festival.
Meanwhile, a call is being made for volunteer chefs to unleash their culinary skills and creating garlic-based dishes, which is one of the main fundraising highlights of the event.
"We encourage our chefs to get inventive and experiment with fun ways to use our signature crop," reads Sharing Farm’s media release.
"Chefs can be from all kinds of backgrounds, from catering to restaurants to culinary institutes: we welcome anyone who loves to cook."
Chefs don't need to worry about bringing their cooking ingredients, including the garlics because Save-on-Foods at Terra Nova will provide 5 pounds of garlic. "
