Our Story
Our Story
The Sharing Farm is dedicated to providing fresh, healthy, sustainably grown produce to community members facing food insecurity. The Sharing Farm has existed for over 20 years because of the cumulative generosity of those who love nature, fresh food, and community.
Led by a small team of farm staff, and with the help of over 600 volunteers annually, the Farm shares over 20,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables every year to the Richmond Food Bank, Musqueam Free Market, and community food programs.

Our Agricultural Mission

We practice sustainable agriculture, to protect our natural environment and allow future generations to farm on this land. We are in the third year of the Organic Certification process and should obtain Certification in late 2026. We use compost and cover crops to improve soil health, add nutrients, and reduce erosion and compaction. Crop rotation reduces pests and disease, as well as the need for pesticides. We use drip irrigation and mulch to help conserve water.
In 2026 we invested in an electric cultivator which will help reduce the manual labour needed to weed beds and pathways, as well as help lay dripline and mulch.
Our honey bees are managed using sustainable practices, ensuring bees have access to good forage. We retain honey in the hives to promote winter survival. We also actively support native pollinators and birds through forage plantings and hedgerows.
Our Partnership with Musqueam Nation
The growth of our collaboration with Musqueam has been one of the most meaningful highlights of 2025. The Musqueam Market increased from bi-weekly to weekly, reaching 80-100 families weekly, and ran from June through October. Kymberlee Stogan, Land-Based Healing Coordinator, hosted two fresh-caught seafood feasts for staff along with education about Musqueam foodways. Rita (Point) Kompst hosted a cedar weaving workshop and a plant and fungi dye introductory workshop for the public, and provided staff with an all-day plant and fungi dyeing workshop.

Our Team

Each year, The Sharing Farm welcomes an excellent crew of new and returning farmers, led by our energetic and dedicated Farm Manager Nikolai Neun-Hornick.
This high-energy field team of five seeds tens of thousands of seedlings, and plants, cultivates, and harvests from two acres of cropland, three greenhouses, and two high tunnels.
Through their hard work, over 20,000 pounds of fresh, sustainably grown produce is shared with the Richmond Food Bank, Musqueam Nation, and community groups. Additionally, they grow produce for 115 CSA members and hundreds of market customers. The Sharing Farm’s presence in an urban space continues to strengthen local food resilience and access.
Our Produce
Our Farmstand is stocked with an array of fresh, in-season vegetables plus beautiful bouquets of flowers from our Flower Power Volunteer team. Buying your veggies from us ensures your food dollars are supporting both the local food system and our work to increase access to local, health food.
Our veggies and flowers are grown right here on our Farm and in accordance with the Pacific Agricultural Certification Society's (PACS) Certified Organic standards, as we are in the Transition Period to be fully certified in late 2026.
Farmstand: June - October (on-site)
CSA Program: June - October (on-site and East Van)

Our Programs

Our volunteer programs serve as the backbone of our mission, empowering individuals to contribute to community well-being. Through hands-on involvement in farm tasks, volunteers play a vital role in enabling us to share fresh produce with community members facing food insecurity.
Come connect with community, get your hands dirty, and learn more about your local food system! We have volunteering options for folks of all skill levels, ages, and abilities. If you're not sure about what program may be right for you, please reach out to volunteering@sharingfarm.ca and we'd be more than happy to help. Thank you for considering sharing your time and energy with us!
The Sharing Farm also serves as a community hub for workshops and events throughout the year. We host the annual Richmond Garlic Festival which draws crowds of thousands to watch live music, eat garlic themed foods, shop at our Market tent, and watch live birds-of-prey demonstrations.
Our Sponsors
Sponsorship offers a way for companies to demonstrate their commitment to accessible, community‑rooted agriculture. It provides the Farm with flexible funding that can be allocated as needed, while providing recognition opportunities unique to each sponsorship tier.
Our sponsors have included: Nicola Wealth, TD Bank, Mutual Fire Insurance, RBC Insurance, Amrize, Axiom Builders, Cytiva, Robert Bosa Foundation, RCG, Capital Salvage Metal Recycling, RW Digital and many more.
Thank you so much for being a part of the Sharing Farm’s mission to bring local, sustainable food to our community!

Our History

In the late 1990s there was very little fresh produce available for clients of food banks. Mary Gazetas and several of her friends founded the Sharing Farm in order to provide healthy food for community members facing food insecurity.
This vision continues today. Since its inception, the Farm has grown to and evolved to include full-time staff, a paid farm team, hundreds of volunteers per year, multiple social enterprises (ie. Farmstand and CSA), infrastructure investment, and expanded growing areas. The Sharing Farm’s presence in an urban space continues to strengthen local food resilience and access.
Our Vision
Access to healthy local produce for all, through sustainable farming and community engagement.
Our Mission
We grow food and community through farming, to advance food security, reconnect people to agriculture, and champion sustainable food systems.
Our Values
We value ecological stewardship, positive action, and collaboration. We embrace empowerment and inclusiveness and act with respect, gratitude and integrity.
