Healing Garden Gets a Checkup
The Healing Garden is at the Farm’s heart and provides a space for volunteers to gather and communal events to take place. The Garden has been a venue for numerous events, spanning from dramatic productions and a Richmond 150 speaker series, to operating as a hub for our volunteers. It is also where we grow the majority of our herbs that we donate to Community Meals and directly to families in need.
After the harsh weather we had last winter, the Garden was in need of some maintenance. The raised bed boxes were looking a little worse for wear; the wood needed refinishing, and a number of the herbs didn’t make it through the heavy snow. Years ago, FortisBC (then known as Terasen Gas) came out to the Farm and built the beautiful Garden and now they have granted us with funds to help restore it. These past few months our volunteers have been hard at work relining the beds, filling them with new soil, and replacing the lost perennial herbs.
The Healing Garden is also the primary location for the Farm’s annual Garlic Festival, which FortisBC has been generous enough to sponsor this year. We thank you for your continued investment in The Farm and for helping us to uphold our mandate of food dignity for those in the Richmond community.
