This team position will report to the Society’s Board of Directors and be responsible for all aspects to build a strong volunteer program as well as coordinate several special events at the Sharing Farm.  Volunteers include individuals, families, community and corporate groups.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate existing volunteer program, make recommendations – take to the board for implementation
  • Respond to all inquiries from individuals and groups in a timely manner
  • Create a system to build a directory of farm and orchard volunteers
  •  Revise existing method(s) to record volunteer hours
  • Schedule volunteers as required
  • Hold a minimum of two open houses a year for new volunteers
  • Represent the Sharing Farm at different community events to reach out and engage future volunteers
  • Attend farm team meetings as required
  • Prepare volunteer training as required and update operation manuals
  • Organize a minimum of two volunteer recognition events a year
  • Coordinate several special events a year that will include Seedy Saturday, Earth Day, Doors Open, Garlic Festival and Cultural Days




  • Experience, and knowledge of current best practices in Volunteer Coordination and Management
  • Excellent organizational skills to produce event
  • Up to date First Aid certificate, and knowledge of  criminal record check procedures
  • Strong data-base and spreadsheet skill
  • Superior skills in use of electronic communications
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Experience working with volunteers who have a diversity of skills and abilities such as seniors and persons with disabilities
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Thoughtful and effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Imaginative, tactful and diplomatic; good judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated and works effectively in a team environment
  • Passionate about community engagement
  • Good knowledge of community resources and referral processes
  • Able to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Good understanding of organic gardening practices and enthusiastic about working on an organically-run farm


This Part time contract position requires a person with a flexible time schedule. Most volunteer groups come to the Sharing Farm on weekends.  Average hours of work per week estimated to be approximately 10 to 15 hours.


Rate of pay ($15 to $20 per hour) will be based on level of experience and skill sets.
