Dear Friends of the Farm,
1. Volunteer Hours
2. Community Potluck
3. Screening – Clean Bin Project
4. Plant Sale
5. Class Cancellation
As the weather slowly warms, we’ll be adding more hours at the farm. Right now, all the activity is happening in the greenhouse (and you should see the greenery in there). If you have a couple of hours during the week, we’d love to see you during our Greenhouse Social Club hours:
Mondays – 12-2pm
Community Potluck – Food Buying Clubs
Friday, April 1st, 6:30-9pm Red Barn, Terra Nova Rural Park
Hope you’ll join us on Friday for our monthly potluck. This month’s speaker is Ross Moster, founder of Village Vancouver who will speak about his experience with food buying clubs. Purchasing food in large quantities and dividing it amongst friends and family is one method to combat the recent spike in food prices.
Ross has been involved with food co-ops since the 1970’s. He managed an organic co-op grocery in Venice Beach, California for 20 years and served on the boards of various statewide co-operative organizations. Currently, he sits on the board of Neighbours Organic Weekly Buying Clubs Co-op (NOW BC). Ross is also a member of the Vancouver Food Policy Council.
Please bring a dish to share + serving spoons. Cutlery & dishes are provided.
Screening – Clean Bin Project
Thursday, April 14 · 7:00pm – 10:00pm
Location: Ralph Fischer Auditorium at Richmond Hospital, 7000 Westminster Highway
The Richmond Food Security Society and Vancouver Coastal Health present this comedic eco-documentary about the serious issue of garbage. Vancouverites Grant and Jen go head to head in a battle to produce the least amount of garbage in an entire year. The filmmakers will be in attendance for discussion afterward.
Cost: Pay what you can ($5 recommended)
Mark the Date! Sat & Sun, May 7-8th from 10am-3pm
The Richmond Fruit Tree Sharing Project will be holding a fundraising plant sale. We’ll have plenty of tomatoes, lettuce, artichokes, peppers, basil & more to sell. If you have any plants you’d like to donate (it is time to divide those perennials..), please bring them along.
The sale will coincide with Doors Open Richmond so if you’d also like a tour of the farm, let us know.
Due to poor registration, we have had to cancel the fermented drinks and cooking with grains workshop. Sorry!
Hope to see you at the farm soon.
