Dear Friends of the Farm,
1. Putting the Farm to Bed
2. Mushroom Walk
3. Basic Food Skills
1. Volunteers still needed
Kareno & Sasha are busy putting the farm to bed. All the seedlings have been planted but there’s still lots of mulching to be done. They would really appreciate the help so if you can join them on Tuesdays or Saturdays, I know they’d be very appreciative. The farm is located at 2631 Westminster Hwy and staff are usually there from 9am to 3pm.
2. Mushroom Walk
It’s mushroom season! Come join us for a walk through Terra Nova Park with master mycologist John Switzer on Saturday, November 6th at 10am. We will try to ID the mushrooms growing in the park but if you have some that you’d like to bring in for ID, you can do so. This session is limited to 12 people but if we get enough demand (and we feed John) he’s willing to stay for an afternoon session. We’d like to fill the morning session first so please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like to join us. The cost will be $5. We will be walking rain or shine so please dress for the weather (boots highly recommended).
Basic Food Skills
After the success of the canning sessions, we’ve had many requests for basic cooking classes. Chef Ian lai has agreed to host these sessions at Garratt Wellness Center on 3 Monday evenings, from 7-9pm. The topics are as follows:
Knife skills and grains – Learn how to choose, sharpen and maintain your knives. Use your newly learned knife skills immediately making low cost healthy grain dishes that you take home.
Stocks 101 – Learn basic stock making techniques with chicken and vegetables to turn into a soup that you can take home.
Chicken 101 – From beak to cheek. How to debone and utilize all parts for multiple meal applications. Leave with a chicken pot pie.
The cost for all 3 workshops will be $25 and payment will be taken on the first class.
